Associate Director Duties: Promote the implementation of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plan; oversee recruitment, hiring and retention practices; revise and coordinate staff orientation; support ongoing professional development of staff and managers; provide supervision and support of practice area supervisors; and address various personnel concerns. In coordination with the Project Director and President, strengthen relationships with supporters, elected officials and community partners, and evaluate and establish community engagement and outreach strategies in alignment with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals. Develop communications strategies for internal and external communications. Work with Brooklyn Legal Servicess Senior Leadership and Unit Directors to set strategic priorities and develop and implement new advocacy initiatives; oversee intake protocols and evaluate case assessment practices to ensure protocols reflect a client-centered approach to the work and are consistent with Legal Servicesâ€™ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals. Report to the Project Director and work closely with the Project Director, President and other senior leadership in developing specific initiatives and managing the organization.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A JD Degree and 8+ yearsâ€™ post-graduate experience, including project management; A demonstrated passion for social justice and extensive experience working with low-income communities and communities of color to advance equality; Significant experience supervising or mentoring attorneys; Familiarity with Brooklyn communities and the communities Brooklyn Legal Services serves; and Advocacy experience in areas relevant to Brooklyn Legal Servicesâ€™ substantive practice areas, including tenant and homeowner rights, family law, immigration, public benefits, LGBT/HIV advocacy, education, disability and/or race, gender, civil rights and economic justice. Team player, self-starter, organized, have an ability to analyze and implement systems, and possess excellent communication skills.
