Counsel/Senior Counsel, Emerging Technologies (Hardware/GPO/Vehicle Programs) The candidate serve as a front-line attorney advising teams in company ATGâ€™s Hardware and Global Product Organization units. You will advise on legal issues related to OEM partnerships, vehicle programs, Tier 1 relationships, manufacturing efforts, and supply chain management. Will support a dynamic organization of product managers, software and hardware engineers, designers, deal makers, and operations specialists who are responsible for bringing the products of the future to reality. Find and resolve wide-ranging legal issues relating to the business, including issues such as: transactional and commercial law, licensing, litigation risk, data privacy and protection, regulatory, intellectual property, and antitrust. Work directly with business clients to provide on-the-ground support and identify potential legal issues. Act as a legal generalist while providing specialist support to clients and legal members in selected areas of expertise. Provide legal support to clients by resolving matters directly, working with other Emerging Technology team members, and collaborating with members of the larger legal team. Provide specialized support to Emerging Technology team members and to clients regarding legal subjects within your personal expertise. For example, an Emerging Technologies team member could preferably provide advice in one of the following subject areas: Large joint-development agreements and partnerships. Testing and operation of vehicle fleets across multiple jurisdiction. Software and copyright matters (including licensing, open source, and code health issues); Regulatory and administrative law matters, such as FAA certification requirements and airspace restrictions or state and federal motor vehicle laws and regulations; Hardware design, manufacturing, and sourcing across a multi-tiered supply chain; Cross-border transactions, including international manufacturing arrangements; Products liability and automotive safety issues; Relationships with public and private standard-setting organizations; Act as a member of the product teams that advise; serving as the primary point of contact for legal issues for that team, collaborating closely with others in Legal to get solid advice for teams, and solving legal problems quickly for the team support. Review global products, features, and initiatives to assess legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions, from the early stages of product development through launch.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state. Should have 9 years of legal experience in a combination of law firm and in-house settings. Must have experience with reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of technology and manufacturing contracts. Experience working for an engineering-driven technology company preferred. Should have demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly. Must have genuine interest in new technologies. Bonus points for a technical background and a willingness to get into the weeds with engineers and other clients. History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including technical groups, in-house counsel, vendors, and outside counsel is needed.
