Friend Of The Court, GS 33
The candidate will develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the Friend of the Court department. Prepares and administers the department¿s budget. Plans, organizes, assigns, directs, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Selects personnel and provides for their training and professional development. Interprets applicable laws and regulations and County policies to subordinates. Monitors legislation and court decisions that may effect the operation of the Friend of the Court. Communicates with legislators regarding proposed legislation. Confers with the State Court Administrative Office to develop policy. Communicates such information to the Court, staff and the Bar and formulates plans for dealing with such changes. Through subordinate supervision, directs all ongoing functions of the department, including legal services, investigations, mediation, enforcement, collection of support payments and the processing of paternity and custody cases. Oversees the maintenance of accurate records, including the accounting for and distribution of support payments. Directs the automation of case and financial records and the preparation of mandated reports to various governmental and regulatory agencies. Represents the County in meetings with community agencies, mental health professionals, educational organizations, the media and the public. Makes presentation to the Board of Commissioners and others as required. Provides direct client services in crisis, complex or difficult situations. Hold emergency referee hearings and resolves grievances. Must be equivalent to possession of an appropriate law degree and admission to the Michigan State Bar. Should have 5+ years in the active practice of law which has included experience in both the handling of domestic relations cases from pre-judgment through post-judgment and in the management or supervision of a professional legal staff.
