Special Investigations Attorney Duties: Provides civil litigation and workers compensation lien expertise in all aspects of research, writing, depositions, written discovery, pleadings, briefs, hearings, examinations under oath, and trial support in connection with administrative and civil proceedings supported by the Special Investigations Unit. May direct and lead the work of others, requiring the ability to influence others and provide direction. Relies primarily on experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks with proficiency under limited supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Manage and conduct litigation in the evolving area of convicted-suspended providers as permitted under CA Labor Code Section 139.21. Provide legal research, writing and analysis in various aspects of workers compensation lien matters and civil litigation, including, but not limited to, researching case law, statutes, regulations, trends, drafting briefs, correspondence, memoranda and pleadings. Prepare for, appear and represent the Company at applicable Workers Compensation Appeal Boards, Superior Court, and other applicable administrative and civil proceedings. Prepare appropriate follow up reporting and pleadings for SIU Director’s review. Attend meetings, interviews, hearings and other proceedings as needed in support of ongoing administrative matters, civil litigation, and initiatives of the Special Investigations Unit.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: JD Degree/ law degree from an accredited law school and member of the California State Bar in good standing. 5+ years combined experience in workers compensation and civil litigation. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Ability to negotiate, write and interpret business correspondence, reports and procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Member of the California State Bar in good standing.
