Privacy Attorney
Responsibilities: Participate in negotiations with third party vendors regarding data privacy issues in a variety of commercial, IT and cloud service provider agreements for the Americas region and global engagements. Structure and negotiate internal and external data use agreements and data transfer agreements, to help ensure inclusion of appropriate data privacy protections. In collaboration with appropriate Procurement and Corporate Legal Departments, review, evaluate, and implement proposed privacy requirements for GISC managed initiatives and vendor agreements that involve the collection and use of personal data. Provide legal advice and enlist feedback from regional privacy and legal teams regarding data privacy laws, regulations, requirements (including GDPR and CCPA) applicable to the collection, use, transfer, and sharing of personal data. At the direction of and in collaboration with GISC Privacy Officer and Privacy Counsel Create, develop, and enhance privacy compliance tools & processes, such as data collection intake forms and contract templates for third party agreements. Create and conduct annual review of privacy notices for GISC managed applications and systems. Assist GISC Privacy Officer in the preparation and review of privacy impact assessments. Provide legal advice to GISC Information Security and IT teams on privacy matters regarding new and materially changed initiatives. Advise on data incident response issues, including breach notifications and remediation plans. Liaise with Sony Corporation and its operating companies regarding group-wide privacy requirements and strategies. Consult and coordinate with Sony group legal departments (and outside counsel as needed) regarding local legal requirements, including regulatory filings for international data protection authorities and consultations with European Works Councils, in collaboration with GISC Privacy Officer. Monitor domestic and international privacy developments and identify related best practices. Provide legal advice and support to GISC Privacy Officer and GISC leadership as they evaluate privacy implications of, and implement effective privacy solutions for, activities involving the collection and use of personal data: Work with the Privacy Officer to support cross-company global projects involving personal information. Participate in Governance Committee meetings and facilitate cross-business discussions; Provide a point of escalation for cross-business privacy needs and decision-making. Support privacy analysis and advice for GISC compliance activities globally.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: A JD Degree and member of the State Bar of California or qualified to practice in California as registered in-house counsel. Must have 5+ years of related legal experience working in a law firm or corporate environment; this includes direct experience applying U.S. and non-U.S. privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines in a business context. In-house experience in a multinational corporation or top tier law firm strongly preferred. Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) preferred. In-depth experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent judgment and analytical skills. Ability to assess risk strategically and help clients find solutions that enable them to mitigate risk while achieving their goals. Program/project management skills, including the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to build relationships and coordinate teams across the Sony Group. Be an innovative/creative problem solver who can find legal solutions to business issues. Be comfortable with a fair amount of ambiguity.
