Fall 2018 Internship Intern will work closely with deputy city attorneys who are designated mentors on a meaningful (yet manageable) caseload. Will take part in client meetings with department staff and elected officials; trials, court hearings, and depositions; public meetings and closed sessions with city commissions and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; and even press conferences related to the office’s work. assist Deputy City Attorneys in drafting statutes and regulations, reviewing contracts, representing the City in court and before administrative agencies and advising the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, and various agencies and departments of the City. Work varies depending on the team on which a student interns. Will join labor division. Represents the City in federal and state court employment lawsuits, writ proceedings, and petitions to compel arbitration, as well as in administrative proceedings and arbitrations under collective bargaining agreements. Advises City departments on labor and employment matters involving the city’s over 30,000 employees and in bargaining with unions representing City employees. Advises all city departments on conflict of interest and ethics laws, and advises City Attorney staff on the rules of professional responsibility. Drafts titles and summaries for initiative measures, prepares draft ballot digests and advises the Ballot Simplification Committee. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school are eligible to participate in the City Attorney’s intern program. Deadline: May 25th, 2018 Duration: 10 weeks ending on November 2nd, 2018
