A law firm seeks a highly motivated and experienced Offshore Energy and Maritime Litigation Associate to join its New Orleans office. The successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and will play an integral role in the firm’s growing Offshore Energy and Marine Litigation practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with a background in maritime and offshore energy matters who is looking to take the next step toward a partnership track role.

Duties

  • Manage and handle complex offshore energy and maritime litigation cases from inception to resolution.
  • Lead client communication and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing regular case updates.
  • Handle court appearances, depositions, and other litigation activities independently.
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop case strategies and provide guidance to junior attorneys.
  • Take an active role in client development and cultivating new referral relationships.
  • Engage in business development and contribute to expanding the firm's practice.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in offshore energy and maritime litigation.
  • Strong academic credentials and a demonstrated track record of high achievement.
  • Proven ability to independently manage a caseload, including regular court appearances and depositions.
  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships while providing meaningful updates on cases.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to advocate effectively.
  • A current state bar license; attorneys licensed outside of Louisiana who wish to relocate to New Orleans are welcome to apply.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active state bar membership (Louisiana or ability to transfer/license in another state with plans to relocate to Louisiana).

Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to navigate complex legal issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advocate persuasively.
  • Strong client relationship management and business development abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage litigation cases and handle all phases of the litigation process.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail in handling multiple, complex cases.
