ProfileCivil Engineer (Recent Graduate), GS 05 Duties : Perform varying assignments related to Civil Engineering. These assignments may be related to estimating labor needed for an assigned construction project, developing cost estimates for a project and/or reviewing construction drawings for adequacy. Monitored by a senior project specialist during the developmental stages of the position and assist with engineering work assigned to varying teams. Serve as a Civil Engineer trainee leading through the intervening positions of Civil Engineer.
Qualification and Experience
To qualify at the GS-05 grade level: No experience required, however must meet the basic education requirements for Professional Engineering Positions. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
To qualify at the GS-07 grade level: To qualify, must possess 1+ year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-05) or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as at least one year: Reading and Interpreting Construction Plans AND; Assisting in the calculation of material take-offs for a construction project.
Education Substitution for the GS-07: Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement or 1 academic year of graduate education directly related to the position being filled (or law school, as specified in qualification standards or individual occupational requirements). Superior Academic Achievement: S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
