Paralegal The candidate reports to: Senior Corporate Counsel. Will primarily responsible for supporting the Senior Corporate Counsel, including providing support for litigation matters involving the Company, correspondence with the company’s insurance brokers, insurers, and re-insurers and outside counsel, responding to third-party document requests and subpoenas, assisting in the administrative functions associated with management of professional liability claims and intercompany arbitration, along with other day-to-day corporate paralegal work. Support all in-house litigation efforts, including responsibility for tracking litigation status, maintaining accurate documentation, and periodic correspondence with outside counsel and status reporting to insurance brokers and carriers and internal stake holders; Generate and track Company litigation document holds; Competently review documents for production in accordance with subpoena or document requests, including creation of privilege log as necessary; Assist in reviewing claims files to accurately determine status and monitor compliance with subpoenas or document requests; Assist with the monitoring and tracking of summons and complaints as received by the Legal Department, and routing them to the appropriate Company personnel; Assist in-house counsel with review of and response to requests from outside counsel on litigation matters involving the Company; Assist in-house counsel with the gathering and organization of discovery from Company sources; Assist with document production, including gathering and reviewing key documents; Maintain current, up-to-date procedures for all subpoena and document production responsibilities and processes; Assist in-house counsel with the administrative functions associated with management of professional liability claims, including claim intake, claim set-up, claim tracking, document retention and management, periodic communication with Company underwriters and outside claims management counsel, and expense and claims payment processing; Provide administrative support for intercompany arbitration and regulatory compliance matters; Assist in monitoring relevant legal and regulatory changes and communicating to appropriate Company personnel. Work collaboratively as a team member of the Legal Department. Work effectively with other teams including underwriting, claims, sales, and legal; Maintain strong and effective relationships with internal units; Participate in special projects, as requested; Provide administrative support to in-house counsel, as needed; Compliance with and maintenance of Company’s document retention policies with regard to Legal documents.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate Should have Bachelor’s degree. Must have 3 - 5 years of paralegal experience. Certification in paralegal studies preferred. Experience working in an insurance company and/or insurance company legal department preferred. Experience with workers’ compensation insurance, bad faith claims and/or collections preferred. Experience with insurance and/or commercial litigation or litigation management highly preferred. Experience in document organization/management preferred. Experience using PACER and/or similar online docket search resources is desired. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Should have excellent organizational skills. Must have effective time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize projects. Experience operating claims management systems preferred; Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word required; proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint preferred.
