Legal Assistant-Victim Advocate The candidate will work directly and indirectly with victims/witnesses in person, by letter, or by telephone as part of their responsibilities as well as the office staff, police agencies and other professionals. Will request reports, restitution amounts, medical bills etc. and assist with retrieving documents from court. Prepare/open/close prosecutor files. Control door and answer phones. Send regular correspondence to victims and/or witnesses. Prepare subpoenas. Comply with victim/witness rights via notification. Provide assistance to Prosecutor/Paralegal with typing motions and letters. Obtain authorizations, i.e. medical releases, plea agreements and requests for protection orders. Have an understanding for legal system. Work directly with police, prosecutors, court personnel and other community professionals. Provide education regarding the legal system and refer individuals to services such as counseling. Contacts victims of violent crimes (particularly domestic violence); provides information regarding legal process, resources (i.e. shelter care, treatment and education programs, legal assistance, financial aid), and investigation process. Coordinates and networks with other crime victim advocacy programs. A degree or certificate from an accredited school in the area of legal assisting or related field and/or 5+ years' experience in law office or prosecutor's office or court office in which they acquired and demonstrated substantial legal and office skills. Experience as a Victim's Advocate a plus. Deadline: 21 September, 2018
