Assistant City Attorney I (Prosecutor)
The candidate prepares and represents the State in cases on criminal and civil dockets and in criminal trials in the municipal court room. Serves as a liaison with police, code enforcement, animal services, school officials, clerks, judges and defense attorneys regarding disposition of class “C” cases. Work is performed with general direction, working from broad goals and policies. Represents the City in criminal and civil dockets and criminal trials and/or other related legal matters, which may include: determining cases to proceed to trial; determining if plea bargains are appropriate; making litigation decisions; and/or, performing other related. Responds to and resolves citizen inquiries that have a legal. Prepares legal briefs and argues criminal cases and/or municipal court appeals. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have Juris Doctorate Degree. Should have 2 years of experience in a municipality practicing law. Requires a License from the Texas State Bar. Must have the knowledge of: Criminal law principles; Community resources; State and municipal ordinance prosecution principles: Court methods and procedures; Legal theory; Legal terminology. Must be skilled in: Prosecuting cases in courts; Applying legal principles to determinations on individual cases and problems; Performing research and analysis; Conducting negotiations; Analyzing, appraising and organizing facts, evidence, and precedents relevant to assigned cases; Preparing written opinions; Writing briefs; Strategically applying legal rules in court; Writing legal documents; Analyzing legal documents and instruments; Reading, interpreting, applying, and explaining rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Maintaining sensitive and confidential information; Prioritizing, organizing, and managing multiple projects; Operating a computer and related software applications; Communicating effectively with a variety of individuals.
