Staff Attorney - Immigrant Rights Project The candidate will be representing to unaccompanied children, focusing particularly on cases involving abused, abandoned and/or neglected children who are eligible to pursue Special Immigrant Juvenile Status visas, and children who are fleeing their home countries and are seeking asylum in the United States. Will be expected to carry a large and varied caseload consisting of affirmative and defensive immigration cases for both adults and children. Conducting legal orientation presentations at the Los Angeles Immigration Court and on-site, and conduct individual intakes with unaccompanied children. The Staff Attorney will provide pro se legal assistance through a variety of self-help workshops. Evaluating cases for pro bono placement and assist in the training and mentorship of pro bono attorneys and law students. Responsible for regular reporting to the LOPC funders and maintain stakeholder relations. JD degree is needed. Active, California State Bar License, or license from another jurisdiction and commitment to sitting for next available CA Bar Exam is needed. Experience (including internships) in the practice of law, preferably in immigration and/or public interest law is essential. Strong organizational, case management, legal research, and legal writing skills is required. Experience working with vulnerable client populations, particularly with children, families, or clients with mental health issues is a huge plus. Teaching experience and/or group presentation experience, is highly desirable. Spanish language proficiency required and will be tested at time of interview is needed.
