Associate Counsel Level B, Claims and Litigation Division The candidate will be reviewing pre-litigation files and medical records. Will be conducting pre-litigation GML section 50-h hearings. Evaluating pleadings to determine appropriate defenses. Drafting disclosure responses and demands, evaluating liability and damages issues. Developing defense strategies. Conducting legal and medical research. Covering court appearances; preparing named witnesses for depositions. Conducting and defending those depositions. Retaining medical/economic experts to evaluate liability and damages. Drafting reports, substantive and procedural motions and third party actions, with progression toward trial work. A baccalaureate degree or equivalent, and LL.B. or JD degree from an accredited School of Law; and admission to New York State Bar is needed. Should have 3+ years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, labor law and employee relations. OR Should have 2+ years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, employment law and employee relations, 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a professional or managerial capacity in respective fields applicable to the general body of law, specialties or practice. A baccalaureate degree or equivalent, and JD or LLB from an accredited school of law is needed. Admission to the New York State Bar is essential. Should have 7 - 10 years of experience in medical malpractice defense litigation. Knowledge of municipal law is preferred. Excellent skills in legal writing, substantive motion practice is needed.
