Counsel DUTIES: As powerful oversight authority over mayoral agencies and any matter effecting the property and affairs of the City. Takes this responsibility seriously, with over 30 committees conducting hundreds of oversight hearings each year on topics ranging from progress on closing Island to the erroneous lifting of deed restrictions. Build on work through the establishment of an Oversight and Investigations Unit, which will work with the Committee on Oversight and Investigations to conduct complex, in-depth oversight into City agency activities and other important matters. Oversee the legal work of the Unit and advise the staff and Committee Chair on legal issues related to its functions and powers.

Qualification and Experience

REQUIREMENTS: Admission to the New York State Bar. Prior work experience as counsel for a governmental oversight body or in state and federal court litigation, or comparable experience. Prior work experience developing and managing complex oversight or investigations. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and interviewing skills. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and multi-task. New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
