Deputy Clerk III
The candidate will perform duties as an in-court clerk, producing a quality audio recording of court events, prepare log notes, and provide clerical assistance and support to the judicial officer during court proceedings. Regular job duties will include the following: Prepare the courtroom for daily proceedings; ensure all needed supplies are available for the clerk, judge, and parties; Perform microphone test; ensure computer programs are operating properly and troubleshoot any issues; prepare the jury room if required; Prepare log notes and other forms used in the courtroom; Open court and announce judicial officer; initiate phone calls for telephonic testimony and proceedings; Administer oaths to jurors, witnesses, bailiffs, interpreters, and other appropriate persons; Record proceedings and prepare accurate summary; Prepare, distribute, and process documents resulting from proceedings; Mark and maintain exhibits and lists; collect and properly store exhibits; transfer exhibits to jury room as authorized by the judicial officer; Route files to appropriate case manager for further processing; Work extended hours as necessary to accommodate the court calendar; travel to outlying courts for any matters set before a judge from Kenai or to cover a judge from outlying areas. Must have experience dealing with the public in stressful situations. Should have experience handling high-priority, confidential, and sensitive information. Must have experience proofreading and editing professional documents. Must have Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate and 1 year of office clerical experience and the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net). Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
