Litigation/Labor & Employment Paralegal Duties: Organize, index and compile documents in formats useful for case management; maintain document collections and productions in electronic databases. Prepare and maintain production, privilege and redaction logs; assist attorneys in initial review of documents for responsiveness and privilege status. Create and maintain deposition transcripts, deposition exhibits and document productions in a variety of databases, including TextMap, CaseMap, and Relativity. Coordinate all aspects of document productions including Bates numbering, protective order or confidential information administration, submission/service via electronic media, etc. Help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing summonses and drafting complaints; preparing and responding to discovery requests; generating status reports; and coordinating document review with experts. Coordinate all aspects of third-party discovery, including drafting subpoenas, coordinating service of subpoenas, and working with third-party vendors to obtain responsive documents. Perform legal and non-legal research on the internet, Lexis or Westlaw. Confirm court rules and filing requirements, in state and federal matters, in California and other jurisdictions. Bluebook, Shepardize, cite check, proofread and edit documents. Assist with trial preparation and attend trial; prepare and compile key trial documents; assist with case calendar of relevant due dates; set up work spaces for trial, locally or remotely (arrange for vendors, equipment, telephone, supplies, etc); maintain trial exhibits and update exhibit list as exhibits are added or admitted; assist with documents being filed before, during and after trial; assist with presentation of materials at trial; and coordinate scheduling with clients and experts. Must be flexible to travel and work overtime, and to assist other practice groups when needed. Work closely with Records Management to facilitate organization and indexing of client materials in accordance with Firmâ€™s Records Management procedures; arrange case room space through Records Management, and war room space. Draft routine correspondence, memoranda and other documents for attorney review. Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelorâ€™s Degree required. Paralegal Certificate preferred. Strong experience in litigation is required; experience in employment litigation (which could include wage & hour, wrongful termination, harassment or discrimination matters) is preferred. High level competence in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook). Proficiency with Sanction, TrialDirector or other similar trial presentation applications. Familiarity with Carpe Diem or similar time entry software, FileSite or similar document management systems. Familiarity with litigation databases such as TextMap, CaseMap, Relativity or Concordance. Legal citation and legal terminology expertise. Strong organizational skills and ability to pay very close attention to detail. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent grammatical skills. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, as appropriate for the needs of the audience (clients, internal and external resources). Work well under pressure and remain flexible to changing priorities. Multi-task successfully in a fast-paced work environment, in order to meet competing deadlines Problem solve, think independently and follow-through on projects with minimal supervision.
