ProfileStaff Attorney The candidate will be responsible for providing substantive legal advice and representation for low income clients who are patients of Eskenazi Health Midtown Community Mental Health Center. The Staff Attorney will provide trainings to and accept referrals from the clinical staff at Midtown. The staff attorney will work under the supervision of the Lead Attorney for the Medical Legal Partnership practice group within the Indianapolis Regional Office. Conduct onsite outreach and intake at various Midtown clinical sites. Review applications for legal services and assess legal issues. Provide legal services for clients through legal research, counsel and advice, litigation and other forms of advocacy. Train clinical staff to identify and refer health harming legal needs. Develop and maintain networking relationships with local Bar associations and with local, state and federal governments and community agencies that serve client population. Exhibit a high level of personal energy, organization and commitment to the position and the mission. Should have J.D. degree after graduation from an ABA-accredited law school and admitted to practice law in Indiana, or eligible to be admitted by taking the next Bar exam. Must have demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice and serving disadvantaged populations. 3-5 years of legal experience and experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred.
