Profile

Managing Associate General Counsel - Litigation The candidate will strategically manage assigned litigation matters (products liability, antitrust, competition law and commercial), product complaints, government investigations, risk mitigation/reporting and export controls compliance, oversees associated budgets, and drives successful implementation of cost control initiatives. Leads and sets direction for litigation and investigation matters managed by direct reports. Oversees and actively manages professional development of direct reports, as well as other team members within reporting structure. Collaborates closely with other company legal department teams and functional support groups in providing advice and counsel to customer(s). Works closely with senior leadership from line of business in developing strategy and achieving objectives. Directly advises the VP, Litigation, Employment and Risk Management as well as CVP, General Counsel – Legal Affairs and other members of the company Legal Leadership Team on issues that have legal importance and/or risk implications. Helps drive legal communication plans and strategy implementation across functions/organizational lines. Keeps informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company and pharmaceutical industry, and assists with development of relevant policies and training. Proactively identifies current and emerging risks and mitigating actions. Responsible for leading or participating in risk assessments designed to identify and mitigate potential IP, competitor challenges, and litigation risks related to new product launches. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all company policies, procedures, and the company Way.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a J.D. with 12+ years of relevant legal experience in the pharmaceutical industry or overseeing pharmaceutical related litigation and/or government investigation matters. At least 3+ years of direct or indirect supervisory experience of attorneys (and non-attorneys) is strongly preferred. Experience as in-house counsel is strongly preferred, but not required. Deep understanding of pharmaceutical business and pharmaceutical pricing. Demonstrated leadership skills and performance in consulting with senior management. Ability to set strategy and direction for complex team and to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Experience within the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry required. Admission in good standing to the Bar of at least one state, with ability to obtain NJ Bar in-house limited license if not already admitted to NJ State Bar. Strong leadership skills.
