Managing Counsel The candidate will be responsible for and manages group of attorneys and paralegals that provide claims legal counsel and support for Claims Innovation and Technology, Claims Compliance, SIU and all other core claims functions. Responsibility for centralized services and infrastructure support that is common to both Personal Lines Claims and Commercial Lines Claims teams to include: Process, Training, Systems/IT, SIU, Subrogation, Innovation, Compliance, QA. Coordination with Personal Lines Claims and Commercial Claims Legal to effectuate these core services for the entire Claims Organization. Proactively provides legal input into business strategies pertaining to core claims services and infrastructure that support the Claims organization. Assists management in reaching business objectives while mitigating potential legal risk to the Nationwide companies. Maintains awareness of property and casualty insurance claims matters and keeps management apprised of significant legal issues and trends that impact innovative design of claims processes. Demonstrates technical capabilities in the areas of property, casualty, subrogation, SIU, material damage, flood, and medical claims related issues. Assist staff attorneys in developing solutions/options to assist management in reaching business objectives while minimizing potential legal exposure to the Nationwide Companies. Coordinates legal advice with other practice groups (including Personal and Commercial Lines Claims Practice Group) to ensure a unified position among practice groups supporting the Claims Operations. Leads and provides managerial support and backup for all attorneys and paralegals within the Personal Lines Claims Practice Group. Performs management and administration responsibilities including performance reviews, coaching and feedback, salary administration, and career development planning for the Personal Lines Claims Practice Group staff.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in Ohio or has corporate status in Ohio is required. Should have 15 years of relevant legal and/or property and casualty insurance experience. Personal and commercial lines experience is preferred.
