Paralegal The candidate provides legal support to attorney with their research and preparation of legal projects. Prepares routine legal documents for attorney review. Logs complaints, forfeitures, foreclosures, bankruptcies and other legal documents. Files documents with appropriate courts or administrative agency. Has frequent interaction with various City departments, administration and the public. Assists the Attorney by planning, initiating and carrying to completion clerical/secretarial and administrative activities. Processes legal documents, correspondence, articles, reports, manuals and other materials on general or technical subjects. Prepares, assembles, and processes legal documents and related materials for appropriate disposition and monitors submission deadlines and time frames. Schedules meetings and hearings for assigned attorney, and update legal calendar for timely filing of legal documents. Keeps their Attorney apprised of their schedules, appointments and meetings. Prepares, organizes and maintains legal files, and trail/hearing notebook. Reviews documents prepared for accuracy and completeness. Handles initial pleadings in civil trial, administrative hearings, and bankruptcy, real estate, and foreclosure matters. The Florida Bar certification for Paralegals preferred; or one of the following: CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP), Certified Paralegal (CP), or Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Professional Paralegal (PP) by the Association for Legal Professionals (NALS) is needed. Certification may be waived for an individual possessing significant legal experience is essential. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals are needed. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence isne Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization and must be familiar with legal terminology. Associates degree and three 3+ years of progressively responsible legal office experience in the research, review and preparation of legal documents and pleadings. Should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word processing software. Must have knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation in order to prepare documents, compose letters, etc. Should have knowledge of legal office practices and procedures. Must have knowledge of the Department and City's policies, procedures and practices. Knowledge of municipal government law is needed.
