Immigration Attorney
Candidate will help develop and grow immigration unit, Immigrant Defense, which is committed to stopping deportations by providing legal assistance and representation for noncitizens who are most vulnerable to deportation. Will include offering consultations to persons in removal proceedings and identifying potential defenses in immigration court, assisting with pro se immigration applications before USCIS and EOIR, and representing clients in both detained and undetained removal proceedings, bond proceedings and BIA appeals. Other responsibilities include conducting immigration presentations both internally to staff and to the broader community. May offer advice to criminal defense attorneys periodically and provide crimmigration analyses to local immigration legal nonprofits. Will also develop and grow IDO’s program with respect to identifying areas where IDO can expand its services. Will propose and write grant applications for continued funding to the project. Will represent IDO in collaboration with local government initiatives and other immigrants’ rights organizations. Will work in a collaborative team setting with other immigration attorneys to carry out responsibilities.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Oregon Bar is preferred although individuals with other state Bar membership will be considered. Spanish fluency is a plus. Experience in removal defense and crimmigration and who has a passion for fighting for the rights of all noncitizens facing deportation. Strong legal writing skills are required. Will demonstrate a commitment to innovative and strategic project development within a collaborative team setting, and, above all, a dedication to address systemic injustices within the immigration system and providing zealous advocacy for all IDO clients.
