Housing Records Access Liaison The candidate will coordinate the division’s response to public requests for access to reasonably described records. Provide information concerning the nature and location of records related to Section 8 housing matters. Respond to all inquiries relating to the availability to the public of the division’s records pursuant to the Freedom of Information Law. Receive and process requests for access to records, including redacting records as needed, as required by the Freedom of Information Law. Receive and process requests for the copying of records as required by the Freedom of Information Law. Where applicable under the law, deny access to the records in whole or in part and explain in. Charge and receive for the copying of records the fee prescribed by the Freedom of Information Law. Keep the office management and legal informed about specified document requests. Be the division liaison for and implement the recent Open Records portal related to Section 8 voucher and housing matters. Work on special projects at the discretion of the Director for each unit. Write reports, guides and memos providing guidance to members of different units within and outside the Division in regards to Freedom of Information Law. Coordinate with the firm legal department when needed. Understanding of confidentiality rules, including the federal Privacy Act.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below. Should have 1+ year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state Bar; or Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Should have 1+ year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Should have 2+ years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or 3+ years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Computer knowledge (Word, Excel and Access) is preferred. Knowledge of Rental Subsidies or Section 8 Subsidy is a plus. Deep knowledge of general operations within the Division of Tenant Resources is helpful. Bilingual is a Plus
