Bilingual Paralegal Advocate Responsibilities: Provides critical services to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Under the supervision of an attorney, conduct legal consultations for potential clients seeking legal assistance on orders of protection, custody, visitation, and child support. Handle routine communications and transactions with clients of MSP’s Center for Legal Services. Interpret for Spanish-speaking clients during attorney meetings, phone calls, and court appearances. Translate legal documents and letters for attorneys. Accompany clients to family court, assist them with filing family court petitions, and provide other supportive services to victims involved in the legal system. Advocate on behalf of clients in matters involving the criminal justice system, public benefits, housing, and other systems. Maintain statistics and complete monthly and quarterly grant reports for funders. Maintain client records, both hard copy and in database, close case files, send files to storage. Perform paralegal and administrative tasks for attorneys in the Legal Center. Assist the Managing Director of the Legal Center with administrative support and special projects, including research, assistance developing presentations, advocacy initiatives, and other projects. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Support our philosophy and guiding principles. Participate in agency-wide and community events, initiatives and committees to help strengthen organizational goals. Work collaboratively across departments. Participate in on-going education and training opportunities. Collaborate with people and synthesize diverse sets of institutional perspectives.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Fluency in Spanish oral and written communication required. Non-profit domestic violence and/or social service work experience preferred. Ability to work independently, assess priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with word processing, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook and database programs. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and to interact with management and program staff. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations and be able to withhold confidential agency information.
