Deputy Director, Codes and Standards Unit, 83008- M3 Duties: The candidate will reporting to the Director, with very wide latitude for independent judgment and discretion. Will provide management and oversight to the Codes and Standards team. This is a supervisory technical position with varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility encompassing project management, design and administrative work. Be responsible for accelerating documentation or government procedural issues concerning time sensitive NYCHA projects to meet their deadlines and targets. Direct and oversee the work assignments of professionals and staff engaged in: managing all regulatory agency (DOB, FDNY, DEP, etc.) requirements, filings, permitting and submissions; managing the review of contract documents, updating design and construction standards, implementing CADD standards, and improving design policies and procedures. Ensuring compliance with environmental standards, including asbestos, lead and other hazardous material. Ensuring compliance with Section 504 ADA requirements and all handicapped accessibility compliance. Developing project shop drawings and submissions. Direct and oversee the Violation Task Force staff resolving Public Assembly and other violation issues. Oversee the preparation of consultant task orders, as well as the performance of consultant reviews and evaluations. Oversee the preparation of status reports, as well as the resolution of issues as these arise. Manage and promote communications and negotiations with all regulatory City agencies to address and resolve issues. Oversee analysis of change orders impacting design standards, code compliance and permit issues. Monitor and track all applicable databases, reporting and tracking systems.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification: The candidate should have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project, 2+years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or 4- year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience; 2+ years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or Must have an accredited Master's degree in one of the disciplines described, a law degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or Landscape Architect may be substituted for 1+ year of the required experience. Must have 2+years of the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Strong organizational skills and technical experience producing contract documents is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skill is preferred. Knowledge of MS Access and Excel is preferred. Knowledge of DOB, DEP, Fire Department and other city agencies filing process is preferred. 5+ years of experience filing with city agencies is preferred. Professional Engineer or Registered Architect is a plus. 8+ years of managing construction projects with high dollar value and/or requirement contracts is a plus.
