Part-time Compliance Attorney The candidate will assist with company legal compliance obligations relating to federal and state leave of absence laws, disability plans, and disability accommodation laws. Will respond to subpoenas and records requests in connection with legal and/or agency matters. Track and analyze developments in leave of absence, disability, pregnancy, and accommodation laws, state and federal. Prepare internal and external communications about leave and accommodation compliance developments. Review and update Canadian leave law materials. Follow state paid family and medical leave law developments and assist with development of internal and external materials. Respond to internal questions about challenging leave, disability, and accommodation claims. Write compliance-related internal procedures and communications. Write external/client/broker communications about compliance developments & best practices (blog, specific client issues, etc.). Prepare presentation materials for industry, clients, brokers, internal training. Develop and/or update internal materials (forms, letters, training).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and be admitted to Bar in at least one state. Must have 2-4 years of legal experience. Experience with FMLA, ADA, and/or general employment law is required. Experience with litigation and/or subpoena responses a plus. Should have excellent writing skills in a variety of contexts, including: interpreting legal information into layman's terms for client communications, blog, etc.; drafting internal processes and procedures for staff based on legal requirements; and preparing compliance-related training materials for Matrix employees and clients.
