ProfileLegal Assistant I (Replevins & Garnishments) Duties: Handles replevin files from beginning to end by opening files, drafting complaints, preparing and sending packages to the Sheriff for service, following up on service, sending case updates to the clients, and drafting motions and final judgments. Opening files, drafting answers to garnishments, sending case updates to the clients, and processing attorney fee checks. Processes incoming and outgoing mail; Electronically files documents with the Court; Provides clerical and administrative support to attorneys, paralegals and legal assistants by preparing basic correspondence, pleadings and other documents as needed. Drafts complaints, summonses, motions and orders on replevin files. Send service packets to the Sheriff and follow up on service. Draft answers to writs of garnishments. Process incoming and outgoing mail. Electronically files and serves documents and pleadings. Reviews pre-bills and processes all final bills by submitting them to the clients per client requirements. Opens replevin and garnishment files in Perfect Practice and performs conflict checks. Monitors and manages the activities on all files and sends updates to the clients as needed. Performs docket searches. Enters notes and keeps notes current in Perfect Practice on all files. Organizes case files (paper and electronic) and keep files current. Communicates with attorney and supervisor regarding case files and workload; keep them informed of all important matters and deadlines. Communicates with clients, court clerks, opposing counsel, judicial assistants, sheriffs, etc. by e-mail, telephone and various other methods of correspondence. Assists the department as needed with special projects and overflow.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred. 1+ year legal experience in civil litigation.
