Safety And Occupational Health Specialist, GS 11
Duties : Serves as Project Emergency Operations Activities Coordinator. Serves as Hazardous Waste Coordinator. Responsible for training and directing all team or individual emergency response activities on the Project. Oversees medical surveillance program and serves as contact with Public Health and the District Safety Office. Serves as project Dam Safety Officer responsible for managing a comprehensive Dam Safety Program for the operating project.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification : Specialized Experience: Must have 1+ year of specialized experience which includes supporting a safety program AND having experience in at least one of the following areas: environmental compliance OR collection/storage/disposal of hazardous materials and waste. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
