Director Of Planned Giving And Endowments
The candidate will be responsible to lead the Centennial Campaign including directing and conducting development, solicitation, and marketing to create new endowment funds and managing the Centennial lay committee. Increase gifts from current donors and obtain gifts such as bequests, gifts of retirement plans, and split interest trusts, as well as other entities that will substantially contribute to the Federation’s Unrestricted Endowment. Enhance communication, offer educational opportunities, and maintain positive relationships with annual campaign donors and current fund holders so they continue to be a key source of additional endowments. Maintain and enhance relations with the professional estate planning community. Lead and direct the Professional Advisor’s Network (PAN), working hand-in-hand with Federation Philanthropy Partners and the Development team. Advise and assist prospective donors and their professional advisors in their charitable and estate planning efforts. Develop a thorough knowledge of local beneficiary agencies and synagogues, as well as overseas beneficiaries in order to accurately represent their financial needs to prospective donors. Demonstrate leadership, communication, mentoring, empowerment, and resource management within the Federation and the endowment department. Ensure operations of foundation endeavors are conducted within stringent requirements of law and fiduciary duty. Maintain relationships with, and the records of, affiliated supporting foundations. Provide effective liaison with other departments to promote integration of donor development, marketing, information technology, and fund distribution into successful Federation operations. Direct the operations of the endowment department to include record retention, fund distributions, events, and mailings. Direct, grow, and steward community agency funds. Steward and build relationships with existing and new endowment donors in the Living Legacy Society and Quarter Century Society. Work closely with accounting on legal gift and fund processing. Supervise Centennial Campaign manager and other support staff as appropriate. General legal work and review for the organization as appropriate.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree. A graduate degree in law, accounting, finance, business or related field is preferred. 7-10 years of senior level experience in planned giving and endowments is necessary. Advanced technical knowledge and experience in the field of planned giving, financial planning, tax law, and/or tax accounting is desired. Experience in a multi-faceted fundraising environment (major gifts, planned gifts, donor advised vehicles) is preferred. Knowledge of and appreciation for the Jewish community, its customs and practices is mandatory. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, and various electronic communication tools is necessary. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are must.
