ProfileAssistant Borough Attorney The candidate assists in the provision of legal services to the Borough Assembly, the Borough Manager, and Borough departments. Graduation from an accredited school of law is needed. Should have 2 years of experience practicing law. Current membership in the State Bar of Alaska is needed. Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy is essential. Advises Borough officials, Borough employees, and duly constituted boards and commissions on legal issues. Represents the Borough before courts in civil and criminal matters and before administrative bodies; tries cases and appears, as needed; interviews witnesses and conducts investigations of fact for various cases and matters. Confers with Borough officials and employees on various legal matters; participates in negotiations on behalf of the Borough for labor negotiations, land contracts, agreements, and disputes. Drafts, directs the preparation of, and reviews ordinances, resolutions, contracts, licenses, deeds, legal documents, and legal reports for the Borough. Provides training for Borough employees and board members; prepares and provides presentations on legal topics; discusses legal topic with staff. Performs related duties.
