Staff Attorney Duties: serves as Counsel to District Council 37, and handles most employment-related legal matters of union members and its elected officials, its affiliated locals and the Municipal Labor Committee. Case matters vary and may include arbitrations, disciplinary actions, improper practice and representation proceedings, unemployment insurance appeals and other administrative proceedings, as well as special proceedings and general litigation in New York state and federal courts. The work involves heavy client contact.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Recent graduates who have passed the Bar Exam and are awaiting admission to practice in New York, and women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply. Must be a member of the New York State Bar. Should be self-starter, mature, have good judgment, be able to get along with colleagues and be able to take direction, handle own case load, work under pressure, and have litigation skills with emphasis on labor and public sector employment law.
