Claims Counsel, D&O Claims Duties: Under limited supervision handle private company Director and Officer (D&O), EPL and Fiduciary claims of moderate to high value and complexity. Manage claims through resolution and in accordance with best practices and within authority limits. Will regularly communicate with customers, brokers and defense counsels, and may be dedicated to handle single and/or multi-party claims and/or claims for specific accounts. Analyze coverage, liability and damages. Participate in mediations and negotiating settlements. Draft reservation of rights and coverage denial letters. Notify Underwriter of claim issues. Draft case summary reports and other reports in connection with significant reserve increases and trial preparation. Oversight of defense counsel activities.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree and 5+ years of experience in the Claims or Litigation area OR Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Litigation area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Litigation area OR approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims Handling area within the Insurance industry AND Must obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses. Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment. Negotiation experience. Customer service experience. Microsoft Office experience. Preferred: Experience reviewing matters for coverage, issuing coverage letters, determining exposure, and setting appropriate reserves. Experience in D&O matters. Strong written and verbal communications. Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to multi task and adapt to a fast-paced, ever changing environment. Strong analytical skills, judgment, decision making and problem solving skills. Ability to effectively present information to manager, customers and external business partners and prepare and present internal reports. Ability to work independently. Effectively collaborate cross functionally as well as develop partnerships internally and externally.
