A law firm based in Birmingham, MI, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Tax Litigation Attorney. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in tax court litigation, including civil tax controversy and refund litigation matters. The role requires a professional with a background in federal and state courts and experience in public sector trial law. The attorney should be able to manage cases, develop business, and maintain high standards of client service.
Duties:
- Represent clients in tax court and other judicial proceedings involving tax-related disputes.
- Handle civil tax controversy matters, including refund litigation.
- Manage case files, oversee client interactions, and lead case strategy and execution.
- Develop and maintain a portable book of business with growth potential.
- Collaborate with federal and state agencies, including the IRS Chief Counsel, . Attorney’s Office, and DOJ Tax Division.
- Ensure high responsiveness and attention to detail in handling multiple projects and deadlines.
- Provide exceptional client service and maintain strong client relationships.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax court litigation.
- Extensive experience in civil tax controversy and refund litigation.
- Background in federal and state court trial law, including some public sector experience.
- Proven ability to develop business and manage client relationships.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
