ProfileTransactional Matters - Supervising Attorney The candidate will supervise staff, fellows, volunteers and interns within the Capacity Building practice of CDP, which provides legal services to grassroots organizations, including nonprofits and small businesses, in a variety of areas such as incorporation and tax exemption, complying with corporate, employment and tax laws, real estate and lease issues. Help groups of workers establish worker-owned cooperative businesses. Train, supervise and mentor staff and volunteers to ensure professional development and competency in work being performed, including awareness of applicable ethical rules. Engage in periodic meetings with staff and volunteers to monitor workload, review their projects, and provide guidance as needed. Conduct formal reviews of supervised staffâ€™s work in accordance with CDP policies. Collaborate with the Director and staff of the Capacity Building practice to develop and implement strategic planning for the practice area. Comply with all grant reporting requirements and supporting CDPâ€™s development department to ensure ongoing funding for the work. Participate in management of CDP together with other CDP managers and the Director. Must have 5+ years of relevant experience. Should have admission to the New York State Bar. Demonstrated commitment to grassroots efforts for economic, racial and social justice is required. Strong writing and analytical skills is needed. Excellent organizational skills is must.
