Immigration Appellate Attorney Candidate will provide free legal representation before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, with the possibility of providing direct representation before the Immigration Court. Will also work closely with staff attorneys to coordinate motion practice and develop litigation strategy before the Immigration Court. Will be primarily responsible for maintaining appellate caseload at the BIA and Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Will also work with Immigration Staff Attorneys to develop and coordinate litigation strategy across a fast-moving and high-volume docket. Provide direct representation on cases before the Immigration Court if desired.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 3+ years’ experience representing detained clients before the Immigration Court; proven track record of handling appeals before the BIA and Circuit Court of Appeals; Ability to handle a high volume caseload; Excellent legal writing and research skills; and Experience with New York’s criminal justice system in general and “crimmigration†issues in particular. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. All language skills and level of proficiency in application. Deadline to Apply: March 15, 2018
