Deputy General Counsel (SVP)
Responsibilities: Exercises discretion and independent judgment providing counsel on commercial and corporate law, drafting and negotiating contracts, supervising regulatory non-gaming compliance programs, human resources and employment law matters, and providing support for intellectual property owned and acquired. Utilizes appropriate control measures to manage the cost of these issues as well as when to engage outside counsel. Customarily and regularly directs the work and manages the personnel issues of Director, Intellectual Property and VP, and Corporate Counsel. Provides direct support on intellectual property matters. Provides superior advice and service on regulatory, compliance, and legal matters. Participates in providing guidance on regulatory developments and industry best practices; maintains and enhances client relationships, including internal and external clients, counsel, auditors, service providers, etc. Assists CLO - General Counsel in making assessments concerning litigation risks; provides advice on proactive steps to minimize litigation risks; assists outside attorneys with newly filed and ongoing litigation involving the company. Responsible for ensuring legal matters are handled in a manner that provides and protects the company’s position in the marketplace and its reputation with customers, the general public, or government and its regulatory agencies. Employs strategies and tactics designed to achieve legal results favorable. Provides recommendations for all settlements and litigation reserves associated with the company. Prepares reports of findings and makes recommendations to CLO - General Counsel. Manages a staff of employees, including the responsibility of ensuring proper coverage, training, and employee performance evaluations, recommending or initiating promotions and transfers, and issuing disciplinary action. Advises on other general corporate and policy matters not listed above as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school or international equivalent required. Licensed to practice law in at least one state. Admission to Nevada Bar is preferred and may be required as a condition of employment over a period of time. 7+ years of relevant legal experience in corporate law, employment law, and complex litigation. 4+ years of relevant experience conducted within the legal department. 2-4 years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to assess litigation risk and guide the development of company policies, taking into consideration federal and state laws affecting those policies. Sound understanding of a global organization’s complex business and work culture. Expertise in areas of law involved with gaming companies preferred. General transactional and intellectual property experience preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Access.
