Senior Trial Attorney
The candidate provides an exceptionally high level of sophisticated legal services and protects the best interest of clients on assigned cases. Handles extremely complex cases and Court Appearances and serves as expert to the Claims Department and Company in tort, contract and insurance law. Handles any case to conclusion by bench or jury trial and possess in-depth expertise in insurance claim, tort and contract litigation. Effectively negotiates/pleads cases in litigation and serves in an advisory role to the Claims Department and various organizational units within the Company. Assists with the management of the staff counsel office and the day-to-day operation of the office facility as requested by the Managing Attorney and in the absence of the Managing Attorney. Assists with auditing case files as requested by the Managing Attorney. Makes novel and complex high-impact decisions interpreting company policy, for which there is no set procedure. Decisions influence success for projects of significant impact importance, client relationships, expenses and or ability to meet organizational objectives, both short- and long-term. Provides guidance and training to less experienced staff as needed. Takes a lead role in group, team or project. Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity and or impact which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation. Challenges are frequently unique and solutions may set precedents for future decisions. Works on the most complex and high impact problems. Manages difficult complex situations and or high impact internal external relationships. Serves as consultant to management on high impact and complex projects and may also be an external spokesperson for the organization on significant matters pertaining to policies, plans, and objectives. Interaction frequently includes senior internal and external personnel often requiring complex coordination between organizations.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Masters Degree or equivalent, related experience. Must have 8+ years of experience - or Bachelor's Degree equivalent and 10+ years of experience. Must have advanced knowledge of practices within field. Integrates and evaluates new advancements in industry, concepts, techniques and standards to contribute to successful business results. Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited Law School and admission to the Bar in jurisdiction(s) in which the office is located and practices is required. Must have 8+ years of relevant legal and litigation experience. Prior insurance defense or tort litigation experience is required. Jury trial experience required. Demonstrable experience independently managing litigated cases from inception to conclusion is required. Experience within the insurance industry is preferred and comprehensive knowledge of the legal system and all aspects of litigation required. Must have advanced written and oral communication skills. Must have proficiency with computer software including current Windows Operation System, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook and Legal Case Management Programs.
