Cambridge office of our client seeks a counsel with 3-5 years of experience with labor and employment law, commercial law, contract drafting and litigation. The candidate supports Senior Counsel in overseeing to the day-to-day operations of the legal function and providing legal counsel. Serves as a trusted legal advisor and partner to clients across the organization, and will work closely with Senior Counsel and senior leadership on core strategic priorities and initiatives. Provides guidance and education for the Broad Institute community regarding legal matters, including advising and responding to community questions/issues. Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, systems and related initiatives, subject to the general oversight of Senior Counsel. Provides expert counsel, drafting, negotiation and analysis across the Institute on multiple subject matters of expertise, including, but not limited to: compliance, governance, privacy and security, ethics, contracting, labor and employment, consulting, litigation and real estate. Accomplishes Senior Counsel and legal function objectives and ensures the Institute maintains a solid legal foundation upon which to conduct business. Works closely with senior management to evaluate the legal impact of major decisions and provides high-quality legal services and resolves complex legal issues relative to the business. Participates with Senior Counsel in the performance of management duties including hiring, training, coaching, counseling and evaluating the performance of legal staff. Periodically meet with staff responsible for major functions to communicate and exchange information on initiatives and legal responses. Liaises with outside counsel for the Institute. Subject to the general oversight of Senior Counsel, makes decisions regarding retention of outside counsel and participates in the management of outside counsel budget. Assures all budgets, plans and strategy have action plans for success and implemented effectively. Serves as a resource for internal/external customers in navigating and understanding appropriate programs and strategies. Must have experience in client counseling and a client service focus, capable of interacting with and providing guidance to a wide range of people and personalities, including faculty, students, venture capitalists, attorneys, partner institution IP professionals, industry executives and staff at all levels, in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Compliance and Data Privacy experience is a plus. Must have an admission to practice law in Massachusetts. Academic, non-profit or pharma/biotech industry life science research experience is preferred.
