Legal Intern The candidate will prepare, investigate and prosecute a variety of state and city misdemeanor violations, traffic infractions, and City ordinance violations; research and draft appropriate motions, pleadings, and discovery. Will represent the City in criminal hearings, court and jury trials, civil proceedings in Magistrate court as required; interview witnesses, classify and evaluate evidence, prepare and draft jury instructions. Perform research for legal arguments, briefings, memoranda, and Orders. Communicate with City departments, personnel, and outside organizations regarding cases, and develop an effective working relationship with City and State law enforcement and judicial personnel. Work under the direction of the City Attorney and other appropriate personnel in drafting, editing and proposing for adoption amended or new city ordinances. Perform research and draft documents, as needed. Assist other staff with assignments and duties as necessary. Perform other related duties as required. Must be a second or third year law student seeking a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited university. Knowledge concerning criminal prosecution and criminal law and procedure is required. Should have a desire to have courtroom experience. Ability to obtain a limited license to practice law in the state of Idaho is needed. Should have valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Should have knowledge of Legal research methodology. Computer and software applications knowledge is needed. Should be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
