ProfileEntry Level Legal Assistant The candidate will draft, proofread and edit legal documents and correspondence. Ensure timely payment of various state filing fees, law firm bills and other legal vendor invoices. Provide various clerical and administrative support to legal team, including: distribution of correspondence, memorandums, forms; screening and/or responding to telephone messages, and routine correspondence and request for information; and provide miscellaneous support services including copying, faxing, meeting arrangements, processing incoming/outgoing mail, arranging for messenger services and word processing. Prepare documents for filing with state courts. Electronically file documents with state and federal courts. Prepare checklists, timelines and contacts lists. Maintain and update calendaring system. Follow procedures with respect to confidentiality of certain legal matters.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should be a graduate. Must have excellent grades, communication skills, computer skills, proofing and editing skills. Spanish fluency is a preferred applicant skill. Must be experienced with Windows and MS Word, and for Word, must be especially familiar with document formatting/styles. Knowledge of legal terminology, principles, procedures and forms as related to secretarial work. Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs as well as modern office methods and procedures, filing, telephone techniques and office equipment. Keyboard proficiency: minimum of 40 WPM required. Strong word processing skills: proofreading, editing, grammar, punctuation, etc. Establish and maintain legal files, chronological files and administrative files (both e-copies and hard copies). Must possess a high degree of organization skills with ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities while managing multiple, (sometimes competing) tasks. Ability to perform secretarial and clerical duties with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision. Minimum GPA 3.25. Mandatory overtime is required.
