General Attorney, GS-12 The candidate will be responsible for administration of Federal Tort Claims Act matters which covers claims that involve injury, or death (with emphasis on medical malpractice cases) or damage to, or loss of, privately owned property, allegedly resulting from the negligence of any employee acting within the scope of employment at those installations within jurisdiction. Investigate, making a thorough study of all available information and analyze the evidence in depth in order to determine its sufficiency and potential impact in event of trial. Determine as to potential liability of the US Government and whether the claim should be settled, compromised, or denied, and responsibility for negotiating a fair and equitable settlement with claimants and their attorneys. Should have graduated in the upper 15% of law class and possess the LL.M. or J.D. degree in a field of law directly pertinent to the work of the position to be filled.
