Attorney - Examiner (CR), GS 13 The candidate presides over hearings on federal employees or applicant complaints of discrimination, including individual complaints, class complaints, and claims of relief by individual members of a class complaint. Makes procedural and evidentiary rulings as necessary. Ensures that the record developed is sufficient for a fair and impartial recommendation on the complaint. Does legal research on applicable equal employment opportunity of federal employment laws. Writes detailed opinion containing findings of fact and conclusions of law. Recommends remedial action, e.g., hiring, reinstatement, promotion, backpay, disciplinary action, required to resolve individual and class complaints, where finding of discrimination is made. Traveling is required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have earned a professional law degree (J.D. or LL.B.), be a member of the BAR and have three years of professional legal experience. Professional legal education above the first professional law degree may be substituted for experience required as follows: The second professional law degree (LL.M) may be substituted for one year of experience. The third law degree (J.S.D) may be substituted for one year of experience beyond the LL.M.
