Criminal Law - Prosecution
Dependency Attorney The candidate will represent juvenile clients at juvenile dependency proceedings and maintain each client’s case file from intake to closure. The attorney will be expected to work with other office attorneys and the on-staff social worker to provide complete and knowledgeable representation of dependent children. The ideal applicant will have familiarity with dependency proceedings in Allegheny County coupled with superior writing skills. This position requires the candidate to be comfortable working independently on his or her own duties while remaining willing to assist colleagues when necessary. The candidate should also have a demonstrated interest in working with at-risk youth. This position is for full-time employment with the Allegheny County Office of Conflict Counsel. As such, no other contracts for employment with Allegheny County to perform legal services will be permitted. Additional responsibilities will include: Representing juveniles in dependency hearings. Organizing and maintaining each case from shelter hearing to case closure. Writing appropriate motions, pleadings and findings of fact. Visiting juvenile clients in foster homes and other placements. Attending meetings regarding the client. Developing a fluency with the PACFile system and filing motions, pleadings, and other necessary court work via that system. Developing working relationships with clients, attorneys and other employees. Covering review hearings for the office’s other dependency attorneys when needed. Attending relevant child welfare trainings and Continuing Legal Education courses. Should have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Familiarity with dependency and Orphans’ Court proceedings in Allegheny County. Should have Interest in working with juvenile clients and their caregivers. Must have graduated from an ABA-accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.
