Employment Counsel The candidate applies advanced labor and employment legal knowledge to complex business issues, and is regarded as a labor and employment subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems/projects where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. May provide mentoring and guidance to lower level employees. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients as well as government agencies and other authoritative bodies. Drives the development of legal strategies by providing specialized legal expertise in the area of labor and employment law. Shares growing expertise within the Global Functions Employment Law Group and with clients through both informal and formal training and mentoring. Identifies and resolves complex legal issues requiring in-depth knowledge and judgment within the area of labor and employment law. Scope includes counseling business unit clients at a local or regional level and resolving sub-region, region and/or business unit level labor and employment issues. Impact includes addressing issues facing multiple client organizations. Advanced university degree in law (e.g. JD or LLB) is needed. Applicable Bar Admission (in good standing) is essential. Should have 6-10 years labor and employment legal experience at a law firm or in-house. Advanced level of experience in labor and employment law acquired through being a leading resource in-house or in similar industry or law firm environment is needed. Advanced breadth and depth of practical and academic knowledge within the labor employment area is essential. Strong knowledge of company policies and procedures, particularly Human Resources policies. Awareness of the international legal environment for the labor and employment area. Advanced skills and experience in negotiating or advising on complex or high value/risk matters in the labor and employment area is needed. Labor and employment litigation experience, either at a law firm or in-house is essential. Proactive and effective communicator of valuable information to clients and colleagues is needed.
