Job Overview
A well-established law firm is currently seeking a highly skilled Associate Attorney with expertise in patent prosecution and litigation. This position will be part of a dynamic team focused on electrical engineering and software, handling a variety of complex intellectual property matters. The role involves both drafting and prosecuting patents as well as managing litigation tasks in the technology sector.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, focusing on technology-related patents in the electrical engineering and software domains.
  • Assist in patent litigation matters, including legal research, case strategy, and client representation.
  • Provide counsel on intellectual property rights and patent strategy for clients in technology-focused industries.
  • Work with engineering teams to assess and develop patent portfolios for innovative technology solutions.
  • Liaise with clients and internal teams to ensure timely and effective communication throughout the patent lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership and business development efforts within the patent space.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years of patent prosecution experience, including application drafting.
  • Strong technical background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar fields.
  • Experience in drafting patents and prosecuting them before the USPTO.
  • Knowledge of 3G/4G/5G wireless networks, networking, or related technologies is highly desirable.
  • Admission to the USPTO is required.
  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina or able to obtain licensure promptly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • A technical degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Certifications

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills

  • Intellectual property law, specifically patent prosecution, and litigation.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Proficiency in patent drafting, filing, and prosecution.
  • Experience with technical aspects of engineering and software.
