ProfileLegal Counsel II (Litigation) Duties: Provide sound, well-reasoned legal advice to the Company’s various business groups on commercial litigation, general liability and other litigation matters. Manage and supervise outside counsel on commercial litigation, general liability and other litigation matters. Prepare responses to and represent MGM Resorts International and subsidiary organizations in commercial disputes and general liability matters. Handle cases before courts and arbitrators, including preparing motions, responding to discovery, conducting and defending depositions, and handling court appearances and trials. Develops and maintains strong business relationships among the various internal business groups requiring legal support. Demonstrate leadership and team-working skills in support of a collaborative environment. Supervise paralegals and staff on work assignments. Performs legal research regarding legal matters; provides guidance on compliance with, and interpretation of, applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Exercises discretion and independent judgment commensurate with specialized legal skills and experience. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. 5 years of progressively responsible legal practice with substantial experience handling commercial litigation and/or general liability matters.Substantial knowledge and understanding of litigation strategies; ability to analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to legal issues; ability to perform legal research, evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations. Substantive knowledge and understanding of legal strategies and principles; ability to analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to legal issues; ability to perform legal research, evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations. Excellent research and writing skills; ability to prepare clear, concise and complete legal documents, reports, correspondence and other communications materials on complex legal issues; ability to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms; ability to make effective public presentations. Candidates may be required to provide a writing sample. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Ability to deal effectively with all business contacts, including government agencies, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, internal clients, and external business partners. Sound judgment and superior decision-making, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; ability to meet prescribed deadlines. Basic proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Self motivated and self directed and able to work without direct supervision on assigned projects and tasks. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Preferred: Significant litigation experience, particularly with respect to commercial and complex litigation matters. Significant experience independently managing multiple cases. Previous experience working in-house or in a resort setting.
