Assistant Public Defender (Public Defender's Office) The candidate will be responsible for defending the indigent accused of Lake County. Becoming an Assistant Public Defender would allow to be involved with the defense of criminal charges within local government, ranging from negotiating dispositions on misdemeanor and traffic charges, litigating motions, and conducting jury or bench trials. Day will consist of the preparation of the defense of criminal cases, from arraignment through ultimate disposition. Will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County. Being able to build working relationships with employees, 30 countywide departments and the public, is sure to keep interested and continuously learning.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have a Juris Doctor degree and be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. Individuals should have a working knowledge of Illinois criminal procedure; possess the ability to effectively problem solve and have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere.
