Counsel/Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment The candidate will be responsible for L&E activities of the enterprise on a global basis, including managing employment litigation, employee and management training, compliance matters and employee compensation and benefits issues. Will be counseling on Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, OFCCP and other federal employment laws, as well as any state and international equivalents. Counseling on employment agreements, employment contracts, confidentiality agreements and restrictive covenants. Assisting in the management of the Company’s severance program. Assisting in the negotiation and resolution of employment-related disputes. Managing EEOC charges, labor arbitrations, ULP charges and state equivalents. Developing programs, policies, tools and guidelines that align with the Company’s values, business objectives and employee engagement strategies. Supporting employment law matters related to complex projects, including M&A strategies, divestitures, and organizational reductions and restructuring. With the Chief Labor and Employment Counsel and the Company’s Chief Compliance Officer, provide advice and counsel on compliance-related matters, including investigation of potential violations of the Company’s Code of Conduct. Developing and deploying highly effective and engaging employee training on key labor and employment topics. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with business partners, legal department members and human resources professionals. Providing advice and counsel on employee compensation plans and programs and employee benefit issues, including health, welfare and retirement plans.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have JD from an ABA-accredited law school and Licensed to practice law in one state and in good standing with all State Bar where admitted. If not admitted in Illinois, must successfully apply for in-house counsel licensure with the State Bar of Illinois. Should have 4+ years of experience handling labor and employment issues. Both labor and employment counseling experience is required. Prior law firm experience is needed. Prior in-house experience is a strong plus. Prior employment litigation, as well as experience with international employee populations, is an advantage.
