Court Attorney The candidate will research and analyze legal issues and questions raised in civil and criminal cases heard in trial courts or on appeal to certain County Courts. Will serve in a confidential capacity and work for the court under supervision in units located in special parts of the Supreme Court or in County and Surrogate's Courts in counties entirely within cities or in counties that have populations exceeding 400,000. Also perform other related duties. Duties include: researching and analyzing legal questions and issues; assisting with conferencing and case management audits; writing confidential legal memoranda; drafting confidential opinions; and conferring with lawyers on unusual or complex proceedings and reviewing legal documents filed in connection with such proceedings. In addition, the successful candidate may also be expected to act as a Hearing Officer for the Supreme Court's SCAR program and/or as mediator for the Supreme Court's ADR program. Should have admission to the New York State Bar; or Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment.
