Regional Senior Protection Attorney or Officer
The candidate will focus especially on children returned to potential persecution and children and families harmed by forced family separation. Will lead and further develop firm's project to: facilitate family reunification of children separated from a parent who has been deported to Central America, identify and document protection and other legal needs and human rights violations for separated children (and their families) repatriated to Central America, determine protection options, and refer appropriate cases to pro bono attorneys for individual representation. Design and implement a project to identify and screen for protection needs and options children who have been repatriated to potential persecution and to document cases of refoulment of children. Increase capacity of Central American civil society organizations in high out-migration communities, and strengthen communication between civil society organizations and key international agencies involved in child protection. Advance firm's child protection efforts in Mexico.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Law degree or graduate degree in international migration, refugee protection, international social work with an emphasis on migration, or other relevant field. Must have 8 years of experience working in refugee, humanitarian, and/or U.S. immigration law and/or child protection – particularly in the international context, or international refugee and/or humanitarian contexts. Must have admission to practice law in any state in the United States. Must have fluency in Spanish. Must have epertise in U.S. refugee law, refugee resettlement, or international refugee contexts. Experience working in child protection and/or with immigrant children is required. Experience working with survivors of abuse, human trafficking, or other trauma is required. Must have experience with U.S. immigration law. Familiarity with Central America country conditions, civil society organizations, governmental agencies is required.
