Legal Head Of State Street Global Markets The candidate duties will include : Managing, developing and engaging an experienced team of professionals (over thirty lawyers worldwide) responsible for all aspects of legal support for State Street Global Markets, including contract drafting and negotiations, client support, product development and product jurisdictional expansion, and risk identification and management. Provide critical senior leadership both within and beyond the legal department by demonstrating the values and culture of the overall organization, inspiring others to collaborate and achieve success under both positive and adverse circumstances and supporting a positive, diverse and results-oriented work environment. Stay abreast of material changes in laws and regulations, worldwide, impacting State Street Global Markets and, where appropriate, seek to influence changes in such laws, regulations and policy. Collaborate with senior legal and business partners in other divisions and corporate functions to ensure coordination of legal advice impacting the global business strategies and client relationships of State Street Corporation. Actively participate in corporate and legal governance processes and provide risk-management leadership worldwide by proactively identifying, mitigating and, where appropriate, remediating market, legal, fiduciary and counterparty risk in the supported business lines as well as across other divisions of the organization. Monitor and manage exposure to regulatory investigations and litigation (and potential litigation), and recommend actions including settlement where appropriate to reduce overall financial and reputational costs to the organization. Support, as necessary, the structuring and negotiation of mergers and acquisition transactions impacting State Street Global Markets and provide counsel on both the business and legal ramifications of significant strategic imperatives, including possible joint ventures and other commercial arrangements.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and a minimum of 12 years of relevant legal experience in the financial services industry, ideally at a well-regarded law firm followed by in-house leadership experience, preferably with exposure to capital markets and/or derivatives activities. Should be a professional with a commercial mindset, and who operates with a bias towards action and execution. Must have a demonstrated ability to think outside the box, providing innovative legal solutions to solve his or her external and internal client’s problems, reduce the impact of global regulatory change on an organization’s operating model and enable the organization to innovate and effectively compete in a timely and efficient manner.
